A Muslim woman too orthodox for France

When Faiza Silmi applied for French citizenship she was worried that her fluent French was not quite perfect enough or that her Moroccan upbringing would pose a problem.

"I would never have imagined that they would turn me down because of what I choose to wear," Silmi said, her hazel eyes looking out of the narrow slit in her niqab, an Islamic facial veil that is among three flowing layers of turquoise, blue and black that cover her body from head to toe.

But last month, France's highest administrative court upheld a decision to deny Silmi, 32, citizenship on the ground that her "radical" practice of Islam was incompatible with French values like equality of the sexes.

It was the first time that a French court had judged somebody's capacity to be assimilated into France based on private religious practice, taking la�cit� - the country's strict concept of secularism - from the public sphere into the home.

The case has sharpened the focus on the delicate balance between the tradition of Republican secularism and the freedom of religion guaranteed under the French Constitution - and how that balance might be shifting. It comes four years after a law banning religious garb in public schools was reinforced. And it comes only weeks after a court in Lille annulled a marriage on request of a Muslim husband whose wife had lied about being a virgin. (The government subsequently demanded a review of the court decision.)

So far, citizenship has only been denied on religious grounds in France when applicants were believed to be close to fundamentalist groups.

The ruling has received almost unequivocal support across the political spectrum, including among many Muslims. Fadela Amara, the French minister for urban affairs, called Silmi's niqab "a prison" and a "straitjacket."

"It is not a religious insignia but the insignia of a totalitarian political project that promotes inequality between the sexes and is totally lacking in democracy," said Amara, herself a practicing Muslim of Algerian descent.

Fran�ois Hollande, the leader of the opposition Socialist Party, called the ruling "a good application of the law," while Jacques Myard, the conservative lawmaker elected in the constituency where Silmi lives, demanded that face-covering veils be outlawed.

In an interview, Silmi told of her shock and embarrassment when she found herself unexpectedly in the public eye. Since July 12, when Le Monde first reported the court decision, her story has been endlessly dissected on newspaper front pages and in late-night television talk shows.

"They say I am under my husband's command and that I am a recluse," Silmi said during an hourlong conversation in her apartment in La Verri�re, a small town 30 minutes southwest of Paris. At home, when there are no men present, she lifts her facial veil and exposes a smiling, heart-shaped face.

"They say I wear the niqab because my husband told me so," she said. "I want to tell them: It is my choice. I take care of my children and I leave the house when I please. I have my own car. I do the shopping on my own. Yes, I am a practicing Muslim, I am orthodox. But is that not my right?"

Silmi declined to have her photograph taken, saying that both she and her husband were uncomfortable with the idea.

Silmi married Karim, a French national of Moroccan descent, eight years ago and moved to France with him. Their four children, three boys and a girl, aged from 2 to 7, were all born in France. In 2004, Silmi applied for French citizenship, "because I wanted to have the same nationality as my husband and my children." But her request was denied a year later because of "insufficient assimilation" into France.

She appealed, invoking the right to religious freedom. But on June 25 the Council of State, the judicial institution with final say on disputes between individuals and the public administration, upheld the ruling.

"She has adopted a radical practice of her religion, incompatible with essential values of the French community, particularly the principle of equality of the sexes," said the ruling.

Emmanuelle Prada-Bordenave, the government commissioner who reported to the Council of State, said Simli's interviews with social services revealed that "she lives in total submission to her male relatives. She seems to find this normal and the idea of challenging it has never crossed her mind."

But everything is not as Western clich� might have it in the Silmi household. As she recounts her story, it is her husband who serves a steaming pot of mint tea and chocolate cookies. Silmi herself collected this interviewer from the rail station in her car. She does not wear her facial veil while driving and says that she also lifts it when she picks up her children at the local public school.

"What hurts me most is that people who don't know me judge me like this," she said. Journalists got many facts wrong, she said, starting with the number of her children and ending with the assertion that she refused to take off her veil when she was interviewed for her citizenship. "It is simply not true," she said.

M'hammed Henniche of the Union of Muslim Associations in the Seine-Saint-Denis district north of Paris, fears that the ruling may open the door to what he considers ever more arbitrary interpretations of what constitutes "radical" Islam.

"What is it going to be tomorrow? The annual pilgrimage to Mecca? The daily prayer?" said Henniche. "This sets a dangerous precedent. Religion, so far as it is personal, should be kept out of these decisions."

In one sign of the nature of some of the criteria used to evaluate Silmi's fitness to become French, the government commissioner approvingly noted in her report that she was treated by a male gynecologist during her pregnancies.

The Silmis say they live by a literalist interpretation of the Koran. They do not like the term Salafism, although they say literally it means following the way of the prophet Muhammad and his companions.

"But today 'Salafist' has come to mean political Islam; people who don't like the government and who approve of violence call themselves Salafists. We have nothing to do with them," said Karim Silm, a soft-spoken man with a visible prayer mark on his forehead and a religious beard.

His wife explains that in 2000 she decided to wear the niqab, a dress code typically found on the Arabian Peninsula, because in her eyes her traditional Moroccan attire - a flowing djelaba with head scarf - was not modest enough. "I don't like to draw men's looks," she said. "I want to belong to my husband and my husband only."

She has given herself until September to decide whether to challenge the ruling.

France is home to nearly five million Muslims, roughly half of whom are French citizens. Criteria for granting French citizenship include "assimilation," which normally focuses on how well the candidate speaks French.

Lately, though, President, Nicolas Sarkozy has stressed the importance of "integration" into French life. Part of his tougher immigration policy is a new law to make foreigners who want to join their families take an exam on French values as well as French language before leaving their countries.

Karim, a former bus driver who says he is finding it hard to get work because of his beard, dreams of moving his family to Morocco or Saudi Arabia. "We don't feel welcome here," he said. "I am French but I can't really say that I am proud of it right now."

France acts to outlaw anorexia Web sites

In the capital of high fashion and ultrathin models, conservative French legislators adopted a pioneering law Tuesday aimed at stifling a proliferation of Web sites that promote eating disorders with "thinspiration" and starvation tips.

The bill, approved by France's lower house of Parliament, still faces a vote in the Senate. But if passed, it would take aim at any means of mass communication - magazines, blogs, Web sites - that promote eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia with punishments of up to three years in prison and �45,000, or $71,000 fines.

The new law was sponsored by Val�rie Boyer, a conservative lawmaker from the Bouches-du-Rhone region in the south of France, but was also supported by the government's health minister, Roselyne Bachelot.

"We have noticed," Boyer said in an interview with The Associated Press, "that the sociocultural and media environment seems to favor the emergence of troubled nutritional behavior, and that is why I think it necessary to act."

With such a law, the French legislators are seeking to tame a murky world of some 400 sites extolling "ana" and "mia," fond nicknames for anorexia and bulimia. Since 2000, the Web sites have multiplied in different languages with blunt tips on crash dieting, binging, vomiting and hiding weight loss from concerned parents.

In Spain, support groups have emerged to counter the influence of pro-ana Web sites, and government authorities prodded Microsoft to close down four such groups on its social networking site, Live Spaces. Health experts in Britain have also attacked the growth of Web sites that refer to anorexia as "my friend ana."

The wording of the bill would make it illegal to "provoke a person to seek excessive weight loss by encouraging prolonged nutritional deprivation that would have the effect of exposing them to risk of death or endangering health."

Critics from the French Socialist Party complained that the new law was vaguely worded and rushed through the lower house by the UMP, the conservative party of President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Eating disorder experts also expressed doubts about whether such a law would actually help victims or create even more demand for the sites by creating new publicity about their existence.

"Ultimately, I think it's a mistake to ban them because I think that you're going to be hard pressed to demonstrate in a very clear way that these sites have a direct negative affect," said Michael Levine, a psychology professor at Kenyon College in the United States whose specialty is eating disorders and the effects of mass media.

There is some emerging evidence that Web sites promoting anorexia do have a negative impact, according to research by Anna Bardone-Cone, a psychology professor at the University of Missouri whose work was published in The International Journal of Eating Disorders. Bardone-Cone created a typical pro-ana Web site and randomly assigned 235 female college students to view it or a fashion Web site featuring conventional models.

Her research showed that the young women who looked at the anorexia site later felt lowered self-esteem.

Bardone-Cone, though, said she had mixed feelings about the French approach to use legislation to tackle the issue. She advocates the blocking of such sites from schools and public libraries, but said that education is the best approach to reach the typical young women drawn to the sites.

"The people who they are targeting are very vulnerable populations," she said. "These are young girls, teens."

As written, the proposed French law does not make it clear who would be ultimately responsible for the contents of such sites - a blogger or the Internet Service Providers hosting the site.

An aide to the lawmaker, Boyer, who asked not to be named, said the UMP expected that the proposed law would be amended to address some of those questions. And he added that the idea was to target institutions that promote eating disorders, noting that "we cannot exclude fashion shows if there is a problem of health" or the death of a model.

The proposed law - the result of a collaboration between the Boyer, the UMP and the Ministry of Health - is one of the strongest measures proposed since the 2006 death of a Brazilian model from anorexia that prompted soul searching in the fashion industry.

Last week, French lawmakers and fashion industry members signed a nonbinding charter to promote healthier body images in a nation where the Health Ministry estimates that more than 30,000 people suffer form anorexia.

But the proposed legislation drew criticism from the French Federation of Couture. Didier Grumbach, president of the organization, told The Associated Press that it was impossible to legislate body weight.

"Never will we accept in our profession that a judge decides if a young girl is skinny or not skinny," he said. "That doesn't exist in the world, and it will certainly not exist in France. "

Le plus haut lieu des arts parisien entame une grande période de modernisation. Nouveau projet architectural, rénovations, guides multimédias, accessibilité pour tous… Jusqu'en 2020, les chantiers seront nombreux pour faire du Louvre un musée d'avant-garde.

Un nouveau projet architectural
La Cour Visconti, située côté Seine, va accueillir le nouveau département des Arts de l'Islam. Conçu dans la lignée de la Pyramide de Peï, cet espace a été imaginé par les architectes Mario Bellini et Rudy Ricciotti, qui ont remporté le concours lancé par le musée en juillet 2005. Très contemporain, il sera recouvert d'un toit en verre flottant au-dessus des salles d'exposition.

Rightio, in fact at first I thought it was cheese but it turned out (kinda) meaningful.
It was love at first sight with Christophe when I saw him on Nouvelle Star, very strong charisma, so gay so man so everything. Though he often only sang English songs, he made everyone melt when he sang in French. I do think, now watching the old episodes, that of course he sings much better in French cos he looks it. But anyway, my views are always bias. What do I know really, nothing really.

Not so impressed with Gad Elmaleh before seeing his standup comedies. I thought the few films I saw with him were pretty average, didn't like the soft loser characters he played. Often wondered how could such lifeless dull eyes soften lover's heart thus overcome being a total dumb. Youtube gives me another chance to get to know Gad better... OH MY GAD! I wish my French was better so I could enjoy more clips. I find this one funny because it brings back my weird happy memory in France: where is Brian?!?!?! He is such a charming guy on stage, ça j'aime bien.

A couple of years have passed and I have now watched this film at least 5 times. Dramatically changed my view after the second viewing, thought it was really well-done. The reason why I am only writing this now though is that I have yet other ways to approach this film, which is not so much about the film itself, but my recent experience that gives me yet a deeper understanding of the relationship described in the film.

MOI JE M'ENNUIE...

As a big sister I have to admit that most of the time I truly simply cannot see things from the perspectives of a younger sister. Be it ways of interacting with family or friends, taking on life's ambitions, dealing with love/hate relationships, whether or not having a life.

I see myself in her eyes. "I can't believe you are my sister!" No, I can't either. The more I look at you the more I wonder, the more I wonder the more perplexed I get. Poles apart our thoughts run, heart to heart our secrets told -- I don't know you, yet I don't know you at all.

Finding love in the strangest places, so I was told. Sure, just look around you! This "love" is everywhere. What is love? It gives you pleasure, it troubles your heart, it confuses your judgement, it takes everything from you and it breaks your heart. It's not necessarily a good thing, but I crave for it. No, I refuse to take down this path therefore I persist in being so idiotic, in being so envious of your carelessness. I am not myself when you are around, just so to have your attention on me, however slight it may be. Can parallel lines ever meet? Well, nothing is impossible, but there's a price to pay for happiness.

Priceless, priceless indeed.

O but why this mundane, this lonesome life.

I can't deny it being a thrilling mysterious action film. There's no doubt in Jean Reno's acting, the two other main characters -- Arly Jover and Jocelyn Quivrin, comparably much younger but definitely not any weaker -- captivate firmly my attention with both their skills and charm. The only thing I have problem with -- well, not really a problem but it makes me wonder -- is why o why ethnicities and religions are more than often inseparable. Growing up in Taiwan where the Han race dominates and Taoism or Buddhism being the deeply rooted cultural phenomenons, Taiwanese are however surprisingly accepting of foreign cultures and religions -- here I mean accepting without mystifying (perhaps still with ignorance or misunderstading, but well...). So really, I often find religious topics rather distant. Back to the film, though not my usual genre it does satisfy me to a certain pleasing extent: despite high standards of acting and action, every character has his/her own life story to tell and each is developed to a level that's perfectly woven into the unravelling of the plot. The story also takes us on a journey of physical distance, showing the streets of Paris and that of Istanbul (I hope my memory is right for this one). Interestingly probing the hardship of (illegal) immigrants in Paris versus meaningless high life/unscrupulous politicians also living in the same happy city. Great atmosphere and colour, a variety of different angles and zooms of portraits to deliver emotions... it has all the elements to be a hit, so just enjoy it.

先來一句題外話: 看電影之前還是先看預告的好... 這幾次下來, 在看完電影之後再看預告片, 真的就是一陣熱淚. 原因除了我上次提到的, 預告片真的是精華, 再來我也要補充一點, 真的不錯的電影我才會再回去找預告, 它總能在你以為已經疲乏了的情感上再加上更多的韌性, 對電影本身再加上新味.

第二句題外話: 本片的海報跟 "Les enfants du marias" 爆雷同! 是招牌, 也是保證 -- Jean Becker 的片, 對人物的寫照就是這麼柔和又深刻, 平淡且細水長流的情感, 那份溫暖就如同海報中的景緻, 將你拉進如此的佈局中, 停格. . . 因你忘懷在如此的享受中, 讚嘆人生竟可如此美好.

本電影改編自 Henri Cueco 的原作. 故事講述天南地北的兩個人 -- 在巴黎頗有成就的畫家, 和鄉下勞工階級的園丁 -- 原本的 "主" 與 "僕", 其實是久別重逢的舊識, 而從他們的不同觀點再度認識彼此, 也互相影響著對方的人生. Dupinceau & Dujardin 從一個共同的蛋糕回憶重新出發, 到不同的人生, 社會階級, 家庭傳統, 口味和品味, 價值觀, 生活經, 健康論... 但愈是交流愈發現他們的相似處, 相同的笑點, 對友情的珍惜, 妻子的愛, 和對自己生活的熱誠. 太多細緻的元素, 畫面上的, 對話上的, 剪接上的, 一而再再而三的打破法國社會中對勞工階級的既有觀念, 要說過份點, 畫家在園丁的身上學到的反而更多, 更珍貴, 更受用.

這樣的 "園丁與主人" 關係讓我聯想到魔戒中佛洛多跟山姆間的情感. 如果我們硬是要以這樣的 "歐式思維" 來解讀不同社會階級間的友情, 除了時代不同, 本劇更為細膩的鋪陳在於兩著之間交錯著的過去, 本來就算是朋友, 卻在知道對方的職業後頓時產生了階級上的情愫, 但他們之間的關係始終是對等的, 沒有誰高過誰, 也因為本身兩個人的 "開放" (或許一開始基於過去的情誼), 在觀眾前建立起了這樣的管道, 讓我們能深入二者的世界, 隨著他們起伏, 一同感受晴雨, 也洞悉藝術中的真假.

愈寫真的愈想再多看幾次..

很奇怪, 看這部電影時我沒有感受到什麼難過的氣息, 心理總想著... 又是另一部傳記, 法國的傳奇人物每個都來一部, 還不就是賺個錢, 賺個熱淚, 為法國的文化蔓延又添上一筆. 這會看這個 trailer, 反倒眼眶有發熱, 不過也是正常啦, trailer 當然要很有力, 要不然怎麼會有人要去看電影?

電影本身有沒有如此大的衝擊? 與其說力道, 我想強調導演所營造出來的不堪, 那傭長難忍的低級, 舉凡言語侵犯, 肢體衝突, 破碎情感, 身心殘障, 變態性愛, 藥物依賴什麼樣樣都有, 這跟我所知道的 Piaf 不同, 因為我只認得她的歌聲, 當這份認知建立在所謂的藝術上時, 她這個人怎麼樣重要咩? 以這部電影的角度而言 -- 是的, 很重要 -- 重要到甚於藝術本身. "哪有什麼不行? 要不然我怎麼會是 Edith Piaf?!" 我是藝術家!! 我是藝術家!! 這樣的訊息在此片中重複傳達著, 藉著不同的角色, 不同的藝人同樣的吶喊, 到底是在英雄化, 還是唯美化, 諷刺地道出才華和現實之間的衝突, 也更加正當化這部電影所切入的角度, 當然, 令一方面也讓我質疑, 沒有這一個角度, 這個人的 "身存價值" 幾乎是零, 也使我疑問, 少了 Edith Piaf 的招牌, 這部電影到底傳達了什麼? 老實說, 恐怕沒有任何正面的訊息, 最攏統的, 在接近結尾時她不斷強調 "愛", 在這痛苦的一生中, 還不忘加點溫暖, 但在我看來似乎沒有什麼說服力.

換個角度說, 每個偉大的人都有傳奇的一生, 管它是美好的還是難堪的. 剛走出電影院我第一想到的是 "摩托車日記" -- 我不需要認識這個人, 還是可以感受到不同程度的人生層面, 電影本身不需要依附在某個人的光環上, 還是可以是個成功動人的故事. 反觀 La Môme, 如果沒有經歷過那樣的文化時代背景, 光用歌聲怎麼勾起串聯那懷舊情懷? 時間是從兩極往中推擠, 無法控制的舞台, 無法自主的童年, 靠藥物控制的痛, 酗酒玩樂的青春, 總是期待著, 她人生的高峰在哪裡? 輕描淡寫的, 這所謂的高峰總共不到十分鐘. 因此迫使我只能去拆解電影的結構, 剪接, 畫面構成的技巧, 以及演員的投入和專業程度, 所幸這些元素都是高水準的鉅作, 不然柏林影展的獎真的是拿假的..

不過說真的, 如果一部電影只有這些 formal elements 可讚嘆, 我不認為可以造成多大影響.

Un vieillard qui vivait seul en Idaho, voulait semer ses patates au jardin, mais, c'était un travail très pénible, car, il lui fallait retourner toute la terre.
Bubba, son fils unique qui habituellement l'aidait pour cette tâche était en prison.
Le vieil homme écrit donc une lettre à son fils dans laquelle il y décrit sa situation difficile

Paul : Les enfants d'aujourd’hui sont plus choyés côté matériel. Par contre, côté écoute et tendresse, je ne suis pas sûre qu'ils le soient autant. Avec les deux parents qui travaillent et la surcharge de travail, je ne suis pas sûre qu'ils aient le temps d'écouter et d'embrasser leurs enfants. De plus les jeunes ont beaucoup plus de difficulté à trouver du travail.

Julie : J'ai envie d'être un peu cynique en vous disant qu'ils ont tout en grands quantité : 2 mères, 2 pères, 4 grands-mères et 4 grands-pères. Quant au matériel, pas étonnant qu'ils possèdent tant avec le nombre de parents qui veulent bien figurer sur le plan "cadeau". Je n'aime pas mon appréciation et j'avoue que c'est une caricature, mais le grand manque d'aujourd'hui, c'est le sens des valeurs. Mais comme dans chaque être humain il y a du beau et du bon, je les trouve merveilleux et je les aime. Je suis grand-mère de 4 petits-fils, et rien ne me fait plus plaisir qu'un tétéphone ou un courriel de l'un d'eux. Brigitte : Les enfants d'aujourd'hui ont tout cuit dans le bec. Ils sont gàtés pourris. Par contre ils ne sont pas plus heureux. Au moindre petit problème, ils sont incapables de l'affronter. Ils dépriment aussitôt qu'on leur dit non. Je trouve qu'ils sont beaucoup moins débrouillards qu'avant. Il faudrait que tout soit facile. Pourquoi ? La vie va trop vite. Marc : Je pense que les enfants d'aujourd'hui ont trop de liberté. Je suis enfant unique et j'ai été choyé. Ils sont nombreux les établissemens qui exigent de la part des candidats une lettre de motivation, car cette lettre est un procédé de sélection au même titre que les résultats, les entretiens, les diplômes et les tests.

Elle doit faire état des points forts du candidat.
Il n'existe pas de lettre modèle, car chaque demande répond à un objectif précis.

Que mettre dans une lettre de motivation?
-(votre passé) Dire ce que vous avez fait au cours de vos études, vos diplômes, vos compétences dans le domaine de votre spécialité, vos intérêts.
- (Votre situation présente) Dire ce que vos faites maintenant (perfectionnement de la lague française) Ce que vous connaissez de la discipline que vous avez choisie (votre spécialité)
- (votre futur) ce que vous voulez faire, votre projet. Essayez d'exprimer quel profil professionnel vous comptez retirer des études envisagées. ET SURTOUT, dites pourquoi vous avez choisi un établissement français en France.
Attention, il ne s'agit pas de tout indiquer, mais seulement dire ce qui est en rapport avec la formation univeritaire envisagée.

法文的動詞有分類，最簡單的第一類是結尾 -er 的動詞，在這節對話中出現的是 se presenter. 名詞有分公(m)的母(f)的，ami = 男性朋友，女性有人則在字尾加 e ，amie. 形容詞也有性別之分，mon = 我的(m)，ma = 我的(f)。分別在於它所形容ㄉ名詞，ex. 我爹= mon papa; 我娘= ma maman。要注意的是，要說我的女性朋友也要用 mon amie，因為 a 是母音，兩個母音不相連。同理，nice to meet you也有公母，enchanter (v.) means to delight, enchanté (adj.) = delighted，公母之分在於說話的人，人是被形容的。所以男的說 enchanté，女ㄉ說 enchantée，在尾巴再加個 e。這是最簡單的原則：公的變母的，字尾加 e。

要跟別人說自己的名字有幾個方法： Je me présente. (let me introduce myself)
Je是我; me présente 自我介紹.
在[2]講到 se présenter, 這是屬於結尾-er的原行動詞，之前加個 se ，這樣組合的動詞意味著是做什麼to oneself, présenter本身的意思就是to introduce, 不過有些 "se verb"的意思在有加se跟沒加的時候意思不同...

以上兩個句型都是解釋為『我介紹給你』，不同的是上面的那句是正式的用法，下面ㄉ是非正式用法。

跟別人說自己的名字，用的是 s'appeler = to call oneself, appeler也是結尾er的動詞, 但不是規則變化的動詞不過現在還不用管太多, 要講自己的名字就記住以下三種說詞
Je m'appelle = I call myself = my name is... (我叫做, 我的名字是)
Je suis... = I am... (我是)
Moi, c'est... = me, i'm... (我, 是...) c'est = it is 在這裡則是指moi, 我. 只有在這樣的簡短句子中才適用喔！

一般來說，第一次見面的人適用正式用語，但學生年輕人之間不是特講究。 "Heureux de vous connaître." 我個人認為小正式，意為很高興認識你 (Je suis heureux de vous connaître.)。女生要用的話則是heureuse。

話說搞笑有兩種, 一種是自己耍笨, 另一種是耍別人搞笨. 前者過分了讓我們在笑的背後多了一分同情心 -- "哪有人這麼白痴?"; 後者過分了反到讓我們不知該笑不笑, 因為知道這樣的情況很有可能發生, 發生時很好笑, 但誰也不願發生在自己身上...

Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath (OSS-117)是法國小說家Jean Bruce在1949年所創造的間諜角色, 而此電影將這角色背景取來改造成超爆笑如同Austin Powers般的國際間諜搞笑版. 故事發生在1955年的埃及, OSS-117到此地來探索為何他的前夥伴Jack無故死亡. 之後劇情無須多做解釋, 當然是曲折離奇點點點... 哪裡好笑?

因為OSS-117是個白痴,而且是個經典的白痴. Dujardin的肢體非常靈活, 雖然是個搞笑演員, 身材比例很好, 穿起西裝人模人樣, 要不是臉部肌肉異常發達, 要達到如此白爛境界可能還不容易. 加上(當然)超級性別種族宗教和語言上的玩笑, 的確把這個傻間諜的角色發展到極致. 只是真的有這麼好笑咩? 其實也沒有.. 或許是法式幽默真的讓我肚爛了, 很多時候我感覺"了解為什麼好笑, 但其實不覺得好笑"..

但真的, 是部好片. 整個電影的顏色, 畫面效果, 設景, 服裝完全重現五零年代, 片頭的動畫頗有Jacque Tati之感. 在極微小的片段中就能感受到它所釋放的"笑量", 不需要以對白來展現的笑點對我而言才是看電影的樂趣所在. 另外, 片中所帶出的宗教文化不同, 和殖民後的問題, 相信也是值得探討的議題.

我對戰爭片沒興趣, 本身主題的情感過甚是最常讓我反胃的.

此片重現在1914的第一大戰法國北部的英法德戰區的美麗耶誕夜. 在戰亂的背景下, 相互為敵的三方在音樂, 歌聲, 以及美酒的陪伴下放下敵意, 在耶誕夜他們跨越了防圍, 看到戰爭以外的世界 -- 有友情, 有希望, 有永恆的他方. 聽起來是很起司, 但我必須說, 整片的情感融合搭配地很合切, 我不認為有過分之處. 或許是廣告渲染和趕在耶誕前出片的種種讓我先前有過頭的錯覺.

本身並沒有明顯的情節, 主題和期望總在一種很自然的設景下產生, 沒有太多的停格和特寫, 就如同夢醒後那溫暖尤在, 卻也還得繼續生活, 他們說著如此這般, 你想著更寬闊廣大的自由. 畫面取景和拍攝的完美, 加上聲樂更臻浪漫... 只是其實, 看完我不覺得有多讚就是了.

每個畫面都由對話組成, 深刻地印在心上, 然後開始, 在生活中重演.

Jaoui 的片對於每個角色的人格都有鮮明的描述, 還有對文藝圈藝術圈的寫實呈現也是我的佩服之處, 讓我感到她的造詣, 她不嘲諷, 只是敘述, 平實地讓我們沒有防備的完全接受, 直到我們也以她的銳利眼光探索我們的週遭.

不同於le Goût des autres, 此片並沒有什麼宣示, 只是藉由不同人物的接觸點出他們各自的處事態度, 和對各自的淺移默化的影響, 結尾由各自的領悟(或不悟)而暗示不同的(或相同的)未來.

音樂上而言的取材十分廣泛, 簡接十分合適. 雖然有時有些對話讓你難受, 整體而言本片還是很好看.

無奈有很多種, 很多時候你以為是人生中的不得已, 但有多少是可以靠自己改變的?

二十八歲的Thomas (Romain Duris 還不錯看, 只是好像不夠高喔), 似乎還沒過完青少年時期, 不是叛逆, 而是對人生完全一個沒規沒劃, 重拾理想時又因意志不堅和身體機能不足而再度迷失... 這部片到底在訴說什麼?

不可否認整片看下來會給你很多思考空間及方向 -- 所謂的心得感想, 但我認為大部分是間接的 (不是影片本身帶來的震撼), 直接的是在它的暴力, 剪接, 以及音樂上給人的情緒起伏, 之後才聯想到的"感想". 因為劇情本身十分簡單, 只因上述的幾個條件讓它複雜化, 事實上只是一個爛人的生存之道, 但他慢慢的體驗到人生的方向, 然後非常慢地朝那個方向邁進.

我似乎也已慢慢習慣自己對電影的奇特品味, 所以說不難推測, 我不是很喜歡此片. 但完全是個人品味問題, 因為我不否認此片在各方面都符合成為銷路好的電影 – 高潮迭起懸疑又幽默搞笑的劇情, 男女主角的演技也都不錯, 將每個極端個性都表現出來, 使整個電影很活潑逗趣... 但從到尾我只在想 « Ryoko真的講法語咩 ?? »還有 « 怎麼可能到哪裡都有人講一口流利的法語 ? 講流利的英語就不錯了~» 第一個問在這個訪問中解答了, http://membres.lycos.fr/jeanreno/docs/hirosue_tf1.html, 第二個不能算疑問, 我的理論是應該只有美日法的電影裡不管到世界各地都遇得到講他們語言的人, 一方面是他們對自我文化的推崇, 另一方面我認為是因為法文的繁瑣, 要用字幕其實是很不實際的.

一直以來我還蠻算Francis Veber的忠實觀眾的。

久而久之，好像沒有新意了？還記得此片剛出時我還在里昂，廣告很大，愈看愈覺得俗氣，建立在經典之上的幽默定要有某方面的突破才能給人除了笑點以外的享受，老實說我覺得此片並沒有。。法式幽默總有一絲沉重的社會階級和性別以及種族上的束縛，即使在言語對話間以輕鬆的態度對這些種種制度問題調侃，字字句句似乎又可以瞬間讓你陷入思考這樣的制度問題。這是對人性自我的玩笑，當你覺得好笑時也就表示你被蓋括在此制度裡而不自知，幽默至高。

冷靜的女人可以掌控局面，但不代表她就不會受傷。

在劇中我們看到有錢但沒什麼文化的大老闆，和他自以為是的室內瘋狂設計師老婆過著似有似無的夫妻生活，在老婆的推拉下去看舞台劇，而因此迷上了飾演女主角的英文會話老師，為了討好她他總不時出現在有她出沒的藝文場合，認真學習英文，試圖跟她的圈子打成一片，直到他真的在某畫展中對藝術產生了興趣，進而贊助畫者，即使在被委婉的拒絕後，他似乎找到另一個精神依靠。。

沒有人是快樂的。
每個人都缺少了什麼，
都還在尋找什麼，
卻也還不知道需要什麼。

然後你問我，這樣的電影能給你怎樣的收穫？怎樣的啟示？

此部電影裡角色很多，雖然出現的鏡頭曝光率不同，每個人的生活都很鮮明地不禁讓你想像針對每個角色所製作的不同電影會和此部有怎樣的不同，不同角度的人生觀，但就如人生，我們都在過生活。

如果只是生活，電影的價值又在哪？

每個角色都過於典型有時會因此讓觀者感到疲乏，而就因為它的劇本對白讓整劇活了起來，加上每個演員的演技，電影剪接，使本劇成為一部幽默作品。

最後，我想以一個所謂的藝術人來說，我們的圈子真的很變態，可是每個人都是這樣依附在自己的圈子裡載浮載沉。

卡門這部歌劇應該大家都有接觸過, 小時後看的時候覺得還好啦, 因為我對於過分光鮮的事物都有點自然的排斥感, 對歌劇也比較常"聽"而非"看", 直到對法文有了更多的認知, 再度看此劇有了更多的感想...

說真的我比較喜歡看劇場的, 可以看到樂隊的演奏, 感受到觀眾的情緒, 藉由指揮在樂團及聲樂者的無間配合下, 在華麗的巨型舞台感受到不朽的時代藝術. 而這部電影應該是界於舞台傳統歌劇和現代改編名著之間, 對於尚未涉獵歌劇的觀眾而言是接受度很高的.

卡門的libretto愈看愈佩服, 我想此歌劇會成為最受歡迎的原因除了原著的堅強故事性, 最主要還是libretto的感人吧!! 真切強烈地從不同個性文化背景的人口中唱出他們對愛的執著, 這是更強於音樂性, 或任何聲光舞台所能比擬的.

至於這片我推不推咧? 基本上喔, 以藝術跟法語的角度而言我都認為還好, 因為它是依附在本身藝術性就很高的歌劇上, 所以本來就該有一定的水準, 可是說真的, 沒什麼特別的感覺.

說真的... 這是我看過最難看的電影了!! 其實它剛出的時候看片名是不會想去看啦, 不過廣告實在做的太大了!! 在巴黎幾乎每個看板都有它的廣告, 回里昂後幾個助教說要一起去看, 所以... 雖然是一年前的事情了, 現在想起來還是很後悔!

基本上劇情是說一個上班族François中樂透後買Daniela跟他住在一起, 本是妓女的Daniela也所幸過起某種程度的家居生活, 直到真相和真相的曝光使之糾結... 不怎麼樣的劇情, 如果你想要看所謂的高尚A片, 或許這是不錯的選擇.

其實, 看的當時腦中一直轉著這些疑問:
Bellucci怎麼會這麼肥? 法國人怎麼會這麼噁心? 這部片會不會太沒邏輯了?

或許它傳達了真實, 真正"赤裸裸"的巴黎夜生活, 但我不懂, 也不想去懂.
它不愉悅, 看完我只能尷尬的乾笑兩聲... @@b

Definitely my favourite French film at all times (yea, I can be confident putting it down) ! i remember someone told me this film was really really good, but i can't see why.... i guess i'm just not a sexual person.. what kinda story does this film tell? the only thing i relate to is how men lie to get laid. in that case, very well done. fuck love.

or should i watch it again and try to get more insight? don't really want to though. the ending is the only drama i see, and the last thing she says is probably the only line that worths a pounder in this film.

watch this film and feel great. game? sorry but i simply can't! -- anything that's a samash doesn't seem to seduce me much... though i wouldn't deny it being a good film. it's quite a visual sensation -- the theatre-movie staging, the montage of story-telling, the almost parallelled real vs. imagined worlds, and the hot hot guy and gal... wonderfully combined to present a life-long romance -- but i do think it is somewhat an over cooked romance, that is simply not romantic at all.

many things in this film make good comparisons with the film Amélie by JPJ. i would say the only exceeding feature this film has is the overall popularising ever-changing nearly boring love story outset, yet full of surprises as the two develop their separate un-separable lives. even though it compresses their lives to some 1.5hour movie, things happen slowly -- especially when you know how it would end. the filling-the-gaps somehow seems a bit dunting, it hops, rather than flows. and i really don't like the music. XP

but can't you just have some fun? be imaginative! well, i suppose i can -- afterall, it seems like what this film is about. love is afterall just a game, a kids' game. there's always a part in us that is forever locked in the nostalgic childhood, the ones who dare to set free and relieve their youthful spirits are able to enjoy life, the above-all's. or am i reading this all wrong? dare you say so.

What I see in most French films are the respect the French have for the elders, the way they value their family, and the orders and disciplines in the society. These may not be the case in the modern French culture, which I will have my own interpretation of in a few months time. I just really like to see white Europeans do the following things, they amaze me by doing so:
1.　　standing up when someone enters the room and when someone leaves the room.
2.　　taking care of the elders. or trying to, or simply thinking that they ought to.
3.　　what's wrong with living at home?
4.　　walking their guests to the door at least. properly done.
5.　　a gentle dose of politeness and seriousness. mate!
hey but really, i think it's only the age differences that have me such terrible experience in New Zealand. I'm now so used to not standing up when being introduced to friends' parents, not thinking that i should do things for the elders, not giving my seat away for others who might need it, etc. though i'm sure i'll pick it up again as soon as i land on Taiwan, i'll have to anyway.

the above surely isn't what this film is about. if you think that i am a bitch, watch this film and apologise!

只記得幾年前這部片還上了新聞，因為保守地，還在考慮能不能在影展中播．然後我看了，兩小時十分鐘的緊張和驚嘆，只留下一個問號．希望我身邊的精英們，各自保重！！

本片在片頭就以剪接的方式讓我感到不適。在斷續的鋼琴聲中，夾帶著老師嚴厲的，甚至帶有鄙視的接近怒吼的諄諄教誨，我的緊張程度應該是跟學生的緊張程度相當，期待著接下來的兩個小時會是一個愉悅的電影欣賞過程。但我錯的離譜！

她的專業一直不是主題，觀者一再地被迫限於她不堪的私生活中，期待改變，以為會有改變，但是我們一錯再錯。我看到了最真實的人生，不是說每個專業人士都會有這樣的痛苦，而是本片以接近作噁的忠實性呈現一個病態的人生，沒有崇拜她為專業所做的犧牲，更沒有歌誦愛情的虛假賣點。

或許的確，此片在某種程度上似乎是用這樣的手法達到一種驚嚇觀者的目的，而本身並沒有傳達任何信息或正面意義．但我覺得在製片，剪輯，演員搭配上都極為恰當，不多不少的呈現人生中黑暗，絕望的沉重，但繼續著，時間並沒有因此停留，也沒有人改變．

Having it as the dvd cover is not that appealing either, and it does give the wrong idea. 很多電影都喜歡用美麗小姐作為招牌，但沒什麼內容．但這部電影的確是美麗小姐，而且劇情和演技都很不錯，所以若去強調她們的性感，只有反效果．

信仰，最終是最強大的人生力量！因為它超越了愛，也包含愛．

think this film is kinda funny, but pretty average.... ok script, ok plot, ok music... pretty good casting though, and visually pleasing too!

Antoine pisses me off really. what a never-say-no loser! and what kinda love/passion is that? duh! and the women in this film are pretty typical in a french way that kinda bothers me a bit, not the sorta jokes i enjoy maybe. bon, ça.

我看到了愛情．100%是甜美的！

有太多歌誦愛情的片只著重於認識到在一起的階段，把熱情燃燒得遍體鱗傷，這樣的愛情會有後續咩？也難怪影片只能就此終結．La Cage aux Folles 之所以會如此成功，就是因為劇情和演員的無間配合，而創造出了最感人的愛情（至少我很感動喔），而又有誰會想到，同性間愛情的感人（雖然我無法確定真實性），或許其中很多是為了效果而故做誇張，但娛樂片的本質就是如此，最主要的是它有主題，並且傳遞了正面的訊息，看完之後讓你對人生充滿希望，真的是一種快樂而又滿足的感覺．

第一集故事的基礎在 Harvey Fierstein 的原作，訴說兩個中年同性戀人在一起生活所遇到的點點滴滴：Renato （Ugo Tognazzi）是反串秀場的老闆，而 Albin（Michel Serrault），他的愛人，就是此秀場的台柱，化名 Zaza．他們有個兒子（其實是 Renato 跟前妻的兒子）回家的目的就是要宣布要結婚的喜訊，而對方是某大政客的女兒，也因此當雙方家長要見面時產生了一連串的瞞騙，偽裝，直到最後的真相大白，再再都表達了做自己的重要．第二集則是加入了警匪動作場面，讓娛樂之餘多了一股懸疑，其實一點也不．然後第三集我根本懶得看完．．．

基本上這三片的劇情發展都可以說是經典模式，我就特別珍惜這樣的表現方式：誰說一定要創新？沒有什麼是新的！重點是如何表現讓自己脫穎而出，讓人驚歎的同時還能依循舊有，也就是說在每個人的記憶中再多加點什麼，而不是全部翻新試圖顛覆每個人心中的那個應該，如此順著觀眾的心意，但因為題材設景的不同讓觀眾仍保有新奇感，還是不斷期待！只是期待若沒有辦法被滿足，那失落感就會更大．經過了三集，也是停的時候了！我覺得第一集最好看，之後的兩集就有點拖，如果電影變成了連續劇那將是最大的敗筆，所以結婚結的好！

總之．．．很好看，大力推薦．

視覺跟聽覺效果都很棒．．．只是我對於故事的發展覺得有點庸長，阿所以重點是什麼？沒有目的的人生，其實又是有目的的，而且極為專一的目的，專一到覺得阿是怎樣！！看這場電影的當下我的心情是兩極的：雙人票變成了單人票，後來才發現票還是自己買的，竟然沒有邀別人同賞；但是至少坐在我旁邊的老夫婦讓我覺得很自在，因為他們看電影的反應跟我差不多．

雖然對於劇情的瞭解度不多，但是十分喜歡本片的畫風：統一的色調，詭異的城市景象，誇張的人物表現，很值得學習．（然後就沒話說了）

沒錯，這是一部很具張力的電影，以一個女性偉人為主角，看得我有些厭煩，因為時代的價值觀以及對女性的觀點，在此片中有很明顯的描述．．．不是說描述的多讚讓我真的去正視這個議題而感到不爽，而是以一種掛羊頭賣狗肉的虛假模式作為娛樂賣點，還不是就要善用女主角的美色來突顯性的議題麼，更加上了藝術才華的光圈。

作藝術的我並沒有太多的心有悽悽焉的感覺，我狂妄地從來沒有對歷史有多少研究，文藝復興好像也跟我沒關係，歐洲人的虛假從那時就有，浪漫也不過是肉與肉的撞擊。因為人本──所謂的自我檢視，自我解放，就是復興吧。愛，熱情，正義，社會制度．．．一切都在時光的傳遞下轉變，當然藝術也是。

但是，真的，這是一部好電影！我只是對主題有點牢騷。蠻劇場的感覺，人與人之間的互動是劇烈的，沉靜，但那背後巨大的情感張力讓你害怕，隨時都要崩潰的感覺。劇中對於細節十分講究，不管是服飾還是設景，還有當時的藝術用品，表現方式，技巧和原料，等等等．．．這些都能讓觀眾學到很多，同時也讓每個畫面都像是一幅那時期的畫作。

所以基本上我的 overall 評價是正面的，這是一部讓你情緒坐雲霄飛車的電影，十分 intense.

La rencontre entre une jeune femme en instance de divorce et désargentée et un vieux monsieur à l'aise et retiré des affaires.

這片我也重複看了好多次。又是 Michel Serrault 演的，不過一點也不覺得他 pédé，雖然長的跟 La Cage aux Folles 裡面的很像，有些動作也是一模一樣，但是在這片裡面他是一個成熟穩重的性無能老頭，卻還是滿腦情愛．．．無奈地開始，當然也是會無奈地結束。

第一次看完的反應是，跟 Lost in Translation 很像，基本上講述的是同樣的寂寞，同樣的情感，同樣的人生難題。在這諾大的人海中，對人的依賴特別重，卻又脆弱，渴望愛情，也不是不明瞭它的模樣，只是害怕，我們都有自虐狂，寧願選擇悲傷，那是美麼？我看完 Lost in Translation 之後其實是覺得蠻無聊的，在我而言，那不過是一部西方人對於所謂的它者的一種不適應，排斥的同時又被其吸引，片中無數日本的極端對比，不過是刺激其觀光價值，還有票房的保證，kiss 日本人的 asses，總之。後來是朋友跟我說，好好看喔，說把寂寞感詮釋的很好，當時我還覺得很狗屁．．．看了 Nelly et M Arnaud 後，覺得 Lost 這片比較略勝一籌的的是它的刺激感，和步調，還有比較強烈的對比──比較強的情感相對之下就會有比較大的失落──當然同時這也是我討厭的地方，令人疲倦的過度對比，有種刻意的感覺。

Nelly 這片好看在於它所探討的不只是所謂的寂寞，或是單純的沒有結局的無奈。親情，愛情，友情，家庭，事業，全都包含了，我感覺到的是一股很平靜的流水默默訴說著每個人不同的故事，然後了解到，在平靜的表面下是深沉的卻又湍急，沒有快速畫面剪接的刺激，但是所有的事情總是以我們沒有預估的速度發生。在一次次的重複檢視之下，我總試圖找每個相關的環節──所有的事情，每個事件，每個畫面所引導的後續，一個眼神，一個嘆息，我驚。

雙向的。心理和生理的需求，現實和理想的背道而馳，期待又怕受傷害．．．不願改變或是害怕改變，然後決定，為過去再盡一次努力，即使代價是未來，我們渴望安定的心卻沒有辦法選擇快樂，那是罪惡。

畫面上而言運用了許多鏡面，讓背景生動，但不雜亂。我的確蠻驚訝的，在背景裡的所有人都很自然，不像在拍片，沒有太多電影的背景能做到這樣的，尤其是在人多的地方。只是我不知道 Nelly 工作的那一幕是有什麼特別意義？應該是我對此片唯一存疑的地方。

還是無解！我猜不出來 M Arnaud 第一幕是什麼時候，怎樣的心情；同樣的，也不知道最後一幕的 Nelly 的心情，但是他們都消失在人群中，就像我們每一個人，帶著我們各自的故事，掩埋。

真的，這是我看過好看中的好看，要我評價的話一定是五個燈啦．．．要拯救人類就要靠搞笑片！真的要讓人會心一笑的好電影比那些賺人熱淚的片在結構劇情製作上基本上我都會給予比較高的評價，這個世界需要更多歡笑！

這個故事講述的是一個中年老人 Francis，雖然是工廠老闆，看似家財萬貫，卻同時面臨著工廠週轉不順，員工罷工，冷淡的家庭和婚姻狀況已經使他每天有如行尸走肉．就在某天神奇的晚上，一個超級俗氣節目改變了他的一生，他開始享受一個在田野鄉村中的幸福．．．

聽起來好像很俗氣哦？這樣的故事在電影史上不知道出現過多少次了，但是！就是因為是電影，所以這片很讚的地方在於每個演員都將其角色演釋得很好，每個角色的設定個性鮮明，典型卻又帶有某種新鮮度。看過 Michel Serrault 演過很多部片，真的覺得他演什麼像什麼，雖然有時候還是忘不了他在 La Cage aux Folles 裡面的超搞笑形象，他的臉部表情和肢體動作每每使其扮演的角色讓人留下及深刻的印象。

我覺得最好笑的一段是那個電視節目，totally taking a piss of the entertainment industry. those cheesy sentimental shitty programmes on tv all the time -- the "real people, real story" sort of programme that does nothing but stimulating useless emotions. 還有主持人的超 cliché 形象，他的大濃妝，講話的口吻，加上現場觀眾的特寫，真是笑的太爽了。

故事的起承轉合也十分流暢，具備了一部電影該有的所有結構，它的發展也帶領觀眾享受法國不同區的美景和美食。在許多法語片中往往都有蠻多在性別上的玩笑，這片同樣也有，不過還蠻人性的，沒有讓我這個大女人主義的人感到一絲不爽。

再來很重要的就是音樂和剪輯，我看了好多次，還是覺得恰到好處，清晰，簡潔，每次看都覺得是很大的享受。
